  • The SSC Foundation Donor Drive is still in progress-please considering making a tax-deductable donation to the General Scholarship Fund, a specific scholarship, or establish your own scholarship fund. All donations make a difference for SSC students. Payroll deduction forms are available in the Foundation Office. Paypal/credit card (Visa, MC, AmEx, Discover) donations are also welcome.   • The Business & Career Institute is hosting a Women's Conference on Friday, March 12, 2010. They are currently seeking exhibitors to participate in this special event. To request an Exhibitor Application form, please contact Carmen Garcia at cgarcia@ssc.edu or call x2663. Applications should be submitted by November 30th.

  • South Suburban College has recently obtained the new domain name ssc.edu. Although this will be an ongoing project to implement, the change has already been applied to the SSC email server. Any email that is sent will have the new domain, ssc.edu, i.e. prush@ssc.edu. The college does have two years to make the transition during which time you may still receive email from your southsuburbancollege.edu address. However, we ask that you please begin the process of contacting clients and vendors to inform them of the address name change. Remember to print the new email/website address on future SSC publications and forms.

Committee Actions:


  • College Prep Committee: There will be Developmental Education Faculty Roundtable Wednesday, November 18th at 2:00 p.m. The committee is also exploring best practices in developmental education, with committee members bringing ideas to the table.

  • Please email your Committee Action in a couple of sentences about the action item and its effective date or semester to prush@southsuburbancollege.edu

Wellness Committee:


  • FREE employee group exercise sessions: November 17, 19, and 24, and again on December 1, 3, 8 and 10. Meets from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. in the weight room. RSVP to sbein@ssc.edu.

  • November is National Epilepsy Awareness Month. Epilepsy affects nearly 2.5 million people in the United States. You can find out more at www.epilepsyfoundation.org. November is also National Adoption month, a month set aside to raise awareness about the adoption of children and youth from foster care.   • Don't forget to turn in your pink yogurt lids to Room 3126. Feel free to turn in any you have at home through the end of this semester. All proceeds go to breast cancer research.

  • Remember, you can use our SSC Fitness Center during open hours and you can also join the South Holland Fitness Center at a great employee rate. Any wellness/fitness questions? Email sandy at sbein@ssc.edu.

  • The Fitness Center hours for 2009 Fall Semester are as follows: Monday and Wednesday 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m., and 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m., 12 noon - 4:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., Friday 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Students must have their SSC photo student I.D. to use the Fitness Center. In observance of Columbus Day the Fitness Center will be closed on October 12th. For further information contact Joe Gillie at x2577.

Cook County to provide H1N1 Shots:


  • Four Ambulatory and Community Health Network (ACHN) suburban Cook County sites will be open on Saturday, November 21st, December 5th, and December 12th to distribute the H1N1 vaccination throughout south suburban Cook County.

    The locations are: Cicero Health Center of Cook County, 5912 W. Cermak Rd., Cicero; Cottage Grove Health Center of Cook County, 1645 Cottage Grove, Ford Heights; Robbins Health Center of Cook County, 13450 S. Kedzie Ave., Robbins; Vista Health Center of Cook County, 1585 N. Rand Road, Palatine.

    At each location, starting at 7:00 a.m., 400 tickets will be handed out on a first come, first served basis. Residents will be given a time on their ticket and will be asked to return to the clinic at that designated time between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. that same day. Vaccines will be administered to residents of suburban Cook County who fall within the priority groups identified by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention including pregnant women, caretakers and household contacts of children under 6 months of age, healthcare and emergency medical service employees, individuals 6 months to 24 years of age, and individuals 25 to 64 years of age with underlying medical conditions such as asthma or diabetes.
