Auditions Announced for SSC Children's Show

SOUTH HOLLAND, IL - The Children's Theatre Company of South Suburban College will hold open auditions for the classic fairy tale, "RUMPLESTILTSKIN," by Michele L. Vacca. The auditions will take place on October 23rd at 7:00 p.m. and October 24th at 1:00 p.m. Readings will be held in the Kindig Performing Arts Center on the main campus at 15800 S. State Street in South Holland, IL.
Auditions are open to community members as well as SSC students. Appointments and prepared audition materials are not necessary. Auditioners will read from scenes, which will be available at the time of auditions. Copies of the script are on reserve in the SSC library. Everyone is welcome to attend both auditions. The rehearsal and performance schedule will be available at the time of auditions.
Director Ellie Shunko of Lansing, will cast five men and three women, ranging in age from 18 to 70 plus. Shunko is planning evening rehearsals. Daytime performances are scheduled for January 9-15, 2010.
Rumplestiltskin tricks poor Milton Millbourne, the Miller, into bragging to King Reginald Rex that his daughter, Roxanne, knows how to spin straw into gold. King Reginald needs gold, and he decides that since the Miller cannot pay his taxes, and the Royal Treasury is quite empty, he will take Roxanne back to the palace and see if she really can do such a thing.
Rumplestiltskin appears, offering to spin the straw, but his price is Roxanne's first-born child. She pleads with him to change his mind. He weakens and offers her a chance to keep the child; for three nights she must try to guess his name. If she fails, he takes the child.
Some of the roles for this show include Rumplestiltskin's wacky wife Griselda, the Miller's clumsy apprentice Fillburt and the Count of Egberton, the King's companion and advisor.
