SOUTH HOLLAND, IL – The South Suburban College Men's Basketball Team's 30-6 season recently culminated with a 7th Place finish at the National Tournament. Now, one of their leaders on the court has been recognized with a national accomplishment of his own. Nick Carey, a 5'9 point guard from Baton Rouge, LA, was recently named NJCAA Division II 1st Team All-American.

"I am excited for Nick and his family for this honor," said Bulldogs Head Coach John Pigatti. "His hard work and dedication to South Suburban College and the Basketball Team was rewarded by the national office."

Carey averaged 13.5 points, 2 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 3 steals per game during the 2008-09 season. He is just one of three South Suburban Men's Basketball Players ever to be named a 1st Team All-American. Carey joins former Bulldog and current UIC Flame Kris Harris, who also played for Coach Pigatti in 2007.

Pigatti added, "I am very proud of Nick and also excited for the college to be able to add another All-American to its list of fine student-athletes. SSC is an excellent school academically, and our student-athletes represent the college in a first-class manner on and off the field.
