High School Graduate with No Previous College Credit

First time students to SSC should stop by the Student Help Center in the Enrollment Management Office for assistance with the admissions process - Main Campus Room 2348

To register for classes at SSC for the first time, you should complete the following steps:

1. Admission Application

Submit a Credit Application to Admissions.

Credit Application Form

Print out Application Form, fill it out, and mail or bring in to the Student Help Center at South Suburban College, or FAX it to 708-225-5806. Be sure to include your email address on your application for faster access to online registration.

2. High School Transcripts
If you are a high school graduate, make sure that your high school has forwarded your transcripts to SSC Admissions. If you are a GED student, have your official GED transcripts sent to SSC. In Cook County, call 847-328-9795.
3. Financial Aid
If you want to be considered for Financial Aid, you must complete the Federal Financial Aid Form. Bring the completed form to the SSC Financial Aid Office for electronic processing, or you may apply online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. Normal turnaround for this option is 7-10 business days.
4. Placement Testing/Group Advising/Counselor Appointment

New full-time college students must register for a Placement Testing/Group Advising session. If you have taken the test at Prairie State, Moraine Valley, Kankakee or Joliet Junior College, bring your Student Advising Report to the Assessment Center. Course selection for your first semester will take place during Group Advising.

If you need further assistance, schedule an appointment to see a counselor. Please call (708) 596-2000, ext. 2306.

5. Register for Classes

There are two options for registration:

Walk-in Registration:

Select classes from a current schedule, fill out a registration form (available in the registration area on the Main Campus or at the UCC), and bring the form to registration

Online Registration:

  • Your Admission Application must be entered in the system prior to using Online Registration. If you submitted your application via FAX or mail, it will be entered within 48 hours of receipt; you may contact Admissions by email to confirm your information has been entered.
  • Request a Personal Identification Number (PIN). Go to the Online Registration page, type in your ID Number (usually your Social Security Number) and click 'Forgot PIN?'. If you submitted an email address on your Admission Application, a PIN will be emailed to you immediately. Otherwise, you will receive your PIN in the mail in a few days.
  • Once you have a PIN, you may use Online Registration.
