Telecourses are media-based courses that make use of pre-recorded resources, rather than traditional classroom lectures, to present course material. Faculty are assigned to each Telecourse and are available during office hours to consult with students. These college-credit courses are especially recommended for highly motivated students who work well on their own. A $10 fee is assessed for all Telecourses.
Telecourse materials are available for viewing on the internet, at the University and College Center, the Main Campus Telecourse Lab, and on the “The Educator” SSC’s very own on cable television channel.
The Telecourse Lab is located on the first level of the Library on the Main Campus. Students enrolled in Telecourses can obtain course materials, view or borrow videocassettes and take exams in the Lab. The Telecourse Lab also houses listening/viewing facilities for using Library media materials.
Please visit the Telecourse Lab, the first week of classes to pick up a copy of your syllabus. It will contain information on how to contact your instructor, the course requirements, a list of textbooks, etc. Syllabi are only available in Telecourse Lab and can not be accessed online.
Successful Telecourse students are mature, like to work independently and are highly motivated. Students who need the structure of a classroom with a regular time and place to meet or scheduled personal contact with an instructor and peers will have difficulty succeeding in a Telecourse.
To obtain more information about Telecourses, please call the Telecourse Lab at 708-596-2000, ext. 2464, or email ssconline@ssc.edu.
