The Bridging Process is designed to prepare Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) to enter the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program. The ADN Program provides students with basic knowledge of nursing theory and practice. Nurses are employed in a variety of settings; hospitals, outpatient clinics, physician offices, and long term care facilities. Registered Nurses are often considered for charge nurse and team leader responsibilities in the hospital settings and they often play an integral role in the health care team. Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN examination to obtain licensure to practice. This is a full time day program, with some classes being offered online.
Residents of South Suburban College’s District will be given first priority for admission into the program. All students must demonstrate a minimum math competency equivalent to Elementary Algebra (MTH 095) to fulfill the AAS degree requirement.
Students applying for admission to the program are required to submit admission materials and meet entrance requirements before an application will be considered for review. A standardized pre-admission nursing entrance examination is required for admission into the ADN program. This examination is at the expense of the student. Acceptance to the nursing program is competitive and is based on satisfactory completion of admission requirements. Admission to The College, completion of the prerequisites or application program to the programs does not guarantee acceptance into the nursing program.
Nursing programs are challenging. It is strongly recommended that all nursing students complete all General Education (non-nursing) courses before entering either the program to maximize success. All General Education and nursing courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better. It is strongly suggested that students carefully consider limiting the number of hours they work per week while enrolled in the nursing program. All applicants must submit verification of a criminal background check and drug screen from a designated agent identified by the Nursing Department once accepted into the bridging process. These requirements will be at the student's expense.
